The Kwilu (in German also phonetically Kuilu or Kouilou ) is a river in the Congo Basin in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in Angola .

It flows a little south of Bandundu into the Kwango , which in turn flows into the Kasai a few kilometers north of the city . Before that, coming from the Angolan province of Uige , it flows through the province of Bandundu from south to north. He passes the places Gungu , Kikwit , Bulungu , Bagata .

Whether the Kwango flows into the Kwilu or vice versa is stated differently in different sources. However, in the majority of the springs the Kwango is considered to be the main river.
history
The Kwilu valley is the home of King Lukeni lua Nimi (also Ntinu Nimi a Lukeni ; approx. 1380-1420), the first king of the Congo Empire . In 1963, Pierre Mulele led the May-May uprising here.
