The Kwango (Cuango / Kuango, also Nzadi, Zaire or Zesere, in German also Kuango ) is a 1,100 km long left tributary of the Kasai in Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo , Africa .
course
It rises in the highlands of Central Angola in the middle part of the Lunda wave . From its source the Kwango mainly flows north. It partly forms the border of the aforementioned states, where it falls over the Chutes Tembo waterfall , finally reaches the DR Congo and flows into the Kasai below Bandundu .
The main tributary is the Wamba. At Bandundu it unites with the Juma (or Kwilu ) to flow 10 km further into the Kasai .
Yaka , Suku , Mbala , and Pende live in the catchment area of the Kwango .
definition
Whether the Kwango flows into the Kwilu or vice versa is stated differently in different sources. However, in the majority of the springs the Kwango is considered to be the main river.
exploration
The headwaters of the Kwango were explored by Capello and Ivens in 1877 , its upper reaches to Kingunschi Mechow in 1880 and its lower reaches of Grenfell in 1886 .
