Cuango is a town and district in northeastern Angola .

The small town of Cuango is the seat of a district of the same name ( Município ) in the province of Lunda Norte .

The Cuango district consists of two municipalities (Comunas):

In particular, the two towns (Among the places of the circle next to the main town Cuango, Vilas ) Cafunfo and Luzamba be mentioned. Other localities are Pone, Muanamawango, Firiquixi, Lumone and Muana-Cafunfo, u. a.

The district has about 64,000 inhabitants (2006 estimate). The number of inhabitants is only an approximate figure, since during the Angolan civil war (1975-2002) there were significant population fluctuations due to forced resettlements and expulsions. The census announced for 2014 should now provide a reliable database.

The district is predominantly inhabited by the Chokwe population, with Lunda , Baluba, Bangala and Kacare also living here .

Economy and Transport

Diamonds, gold and iron ore are mined in the district, especially in Cafunfo and Luzamba.

The main crop of agriculture in the district is cassava .

The district administration operates a municipal airport, the Aeroporto de Cuango-Luzamba ( IATA airport code : LZM, ICAO code : FNLZ).
