George Grenfell

George Grenfell

George Grenfell (born August 21, 1849 in Sancreed near Penzance , Cornwall , †  July 1, 1906 in Basako in the Congo ) was an English missionary and Africa explorer .

Grenfell went in 1874 on behalf of the Baptists - Missionary Society of Cameroon , where he founded the station Victoria , from where he and Thomas Comber the delta of the 1876-1879 Cameroon River explored. Later he was active in the central Congo Basin. In 1885 he explored the Lulango with Curt von François and the Mohongi up to the rapids of Songo . In 1886 he went from the lower reaches of the Kuango and the banks of the Leopold II and Mantumbases .

George Grenfell died on July 1, 1906 in Basako, Congo.
