The African river Lualaba , also Luala , is considered to be the actual source of the Congo .
course
It rises in the south of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the province of Haut-Katanga . Its source is there in the southern Mitumba Mountains on the border with the Lunda wave about 100 km west of Lubumbashi . It first flows north, past the lakes Upembasee and Kisalesee and about 150 km further north, it takes in the water of the Luvua - Luapula - Chambeshi, which comes from the southeast . Another 150 km further north, the Lukuga , coming from the east and draining Lake Tanganyika , flows to it. From there it flows further north to the Boyoma Falls near Kisangani . From there on the river is called Congo .
Congo source
The river Luvua - Luapula - Chambeshi mentioned above is significantly longer than this up to its confluence with the Lualaba, but is only regarded as a tributary of the Congo due to the lower water flow .
