Lake Upemba is a lake in the Democratic Republic of the Congo .
description
At 530 km² it is the largest lake in the Bukama region of the Haut-Lomami province . It extends over 70 km in length, but is only up to 3.2 m deep. The water level is high from March to June and low from October to January.
Protected areas
The lake is part of the Upemba National Park and lies in the boggy lowland formed by the Lualaba , the actual headwaters of the Congo . In the Kamalondo - depression , there are next to the Lake Upemba still about 50 other than the next largest Kisalesee .
The algae growth in Lake Upemba is strong; the northern half of the lake is almost completely covered by plants such as the cattail species Typha domingensis .
