The Ulindi is an approximately 690 km long right tributary of the Congo (Lualaba) in the southeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo .

River course

The Ulindi rises in the Itombwe Mountains in the extreme east of the Sud-Kivu province . The headwaters are located at an altitude of about 2800  m on the northeast flank of the 3480  m high Mont Mohi . The Ulindi initially flows 30 km in a north-northwest direction and then turns west. The city of Shabunda is located at river kilometer 380 on the left bank of the river. It is located in a bend in the river Ulindi and is bounded by it to the east, north and west. 265 km above the mouth, the river reaches the Maniema province and turns to the northwest. At river kilometer 168 the Lugulu , the most important tributary, flows into the river on the right side. The Ulindi finally flows 145 km north of the provincial capital Kindu into the north-flowing Lualaba, the upper reaches of the Congo. The catchment area covers around 23,000 km².
