The Lufira River is a tributary of the Lualaba in southeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo .
course
The Lufira rises on the Shaba plateau south of Likasi , near the border with Zambia. It flows about 500 km north through the Bia Mountains and over Lake Kisale into the Lualaba.
The river is not to be confused with the Lufira (Lake Malawi) in Malawi.
Energy generation
The river was dammed in 1926 in Mwadingusha near Likasi to the Tshangalele Lake , in order to generate energy for the copper smelting with a hydroelectric power station.
