The 2012 Mercury Insurance Open was a women's tennis tournament on the 2012 WTA Tour in Carlsbad , San Diego County . The Premier category hard court tournament took place from July 16-22, 2012, parallel to the Sony Swedish Open 2012 in Båstad .

The defending champion in the singles was Agnieszka Radwańska , who beat Wera Swonarjowa in two sets in 2011 . In this year's final Dominika Cibulková defeated her opponent Marion Bartoli 6: 1, 7: 5. Defending champions in doubles were Květa Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik , who defeated Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears , who in turn won the 2012 final against Vania King and Nadja Petrowa .
