The Open GDF Suez 2012 was the 20th edition of the hard court tennis tournament in Paris . They were part of the 2012 WTA Tour as a premier category tournament . The tournament took place from February 6th to 12th at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin . The same week the PTT Pattaya Open 2012 took place in Pattaya from February 5th to 12th .

The defending champion in singles was the Czech Petra Kvitová and in doubles the pairing Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Meghann Shaughnessy . Neither Kvitová nor Shaughnessy competed this year, Mattek-Sands and his new partner were eliminated in the first round.

The winner in the individual was the German Angelique Kerber , who won her first WTA title. In the final she defeated the local hero Marion Bartoli 7: 6, 3 , 5: 7 and 6: 3. Already in the quarter-finals she surprisingly eliminated the top seed Maria Sharapova , which was Kerber's first win against a top 5 player. The Americans Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond won the double final in straight sets against Anna-Lena Grönefeld and Petra Martić .
