Marija Serhijivna Korytzewa ( Ukrainian Марія Сергіївна Коритцева ; born May 25, 1985 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) is a former Ukrainian tennis player .

Career

At the age of six, Korytzewa began to play tennis with her parents. In 2000 she took part in ITF tournaments for the first time , and in 2002 she won her first titles there (singles and doubles).

She won six ITF singles tournaments. With changing partners, she entered the list of winners just as often in doubles at tournaments of the WTA Tour . In 2008, Korytzewa reached the top 100 of the WTA world rankings for the first time by moving into the second round of the Australian Open . She took her highest position (rank 50) after she had reached the final of a WTA tournament for the second time in Palermo (after Calcutta 2007, loss to Maria Kirilenko ); there she was defeated by Sara Errani .

At the beginning of the 2011 season she failed in the qualification in Brisbane, Hobart and Melbourne, as did her in Roland Garros and Wimbledon. In Baku , Korytzewa stormed into the semifinals, where she was defeated by the eventual tournament winner Vera Swonarjowa . In doubles, she was able to celebrate her sixth WTA title alongside Tazzjana Putschak in the same place.

Between 2004 and 2010 she played ten Fed Cup games for Ukraine , five of which she won.

Korytzewa played her last professional match in March 2012 at an ITF tournament in Poza Rica (Mexico), where she was eliminated in singles in the round of 16 and again reached a final with her doubles partner Maria Elena Camerin .
