Martina Müller-Skibbe (born October 11, 1982 in Hanover ) is a former German tennis player .

Tennis career

Martina Müller played in the German Fed Cup team from 2001 to 2003 as well as 2006 and 2008 and became German tennis champion in 1999 and 2005 . She was trained by her father Reinhard Müller.

From 1999 she was a professional player and played her first ITF tournaments, of which she was able to win ten (singles / doubles) each in her career.

Her greatest success was winning the title in 2002 at the WTA tournament in Budapest , where she defeated Swiss Myriam Casanova in the final. In the same year she reached the third round at the US Open , her best result in a Grand Slam tournament . She celebrated further successes with victories over the top 10 players Conchita Martínez , Patty Schnyder and Amanda Coetzer .

In July 2007, Müller reached the final of a WTA tournament again in Palermo , which she lost in two straight sets against Ágnes Szávay .

In 2009 and 2010 she took a break from tennis; since July 20, 2010 she has been the mother of one son.

At the beginning of 2011, she failed four times in the qualification (including in Melbourne ). On August 18, 2011, on the day of her wedding to Florian Skibbe, Martina Müller announced her withdrawal from professional tennis.
