Maret Ani (born January 31, 1982 in Tallinn ) is a former Estonian tennis player .
Career
Ani, who was a talented basketball player in her youth , switched to tennis at the age of 14. Three years later she went to Italy when she found a sponsor for a coach. She was trained first by Aito Poldma, later by Pierfrancesco Restelli.
Ani first played for the Estonian Fed Cup team in 1998 . In 2004 and 2008 she competed for Estonia at the Olympic Games , in 2004 only in doubles , in 2008 also in singles . She never got past the first round in any of her bets. In early 2006 she was still the best-placed Estonian tennis player before she was replaced by Kaia Kanepi .
In her professional career, Ani has won a total of seven singles and 17 doubles titles at ITF tournaments. Her last official appearance was in July 2010 at the WTA tournament in Båstad , where she failed in the individual qualification. Two months earlier, she had won her last title alongside Julia Schruff at the ITF tournament in Florence.
