The 2012 Abierto Mexicano Telcel was a clay tennis tennis tournament for women in Acapulco . It was part of the WTA Tour 2012 as a tournament in the International category . The tournament took place from February 27 to March 3, 2012. In the same week the BMW Malaysian Open took place in Kuala Lumpur , which was also part of the international tournament of the WTA Tour 2012.

In the individual, the third seeded Italian Sara Errani defeated her number two compatriot Flavia Pennetta in three sets with 5: 7, 7: 6 2 and 6: 0. In doubles, the top seeded Italian duo Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci beat the number two seeded Spanish duo Lourdes Domínguez Lino and Arantxa Parra Santonja in two sets with 6: 2, 6: 1.

The 2012 tournament was dominated by the Italian players. All three top seeded players from Italy were able to reach the semi-finals in singles. Both the single title and the double title - together with her partner Vinci, who she had defeated in the semi-finals of the individual competition - went to Errani, who was able to win her third WTA tournament title after more than three and a half years without winning the title. In doubles it was already the sixth title win together with her long-term partner Vinci, the ninth overall on the WTA tour.
