Gisela Dulko (born January 30, 1985 in Buenos Aires ) is a former Argentine tennis player .
Career
After watching her older brother do it for a while, she started playing tennis at the age of seven. Alejandro Dulko was also her trainer.
Even as a junior, Gisela Dulko won Grand Slam tournaments in doubles, the US Open (in 2000), Wimbledon (2001) and the Australian Open (2002).
In her career she won four singles and 17 doubles titles on the WTA Tour . She reached her highest position in the individual world rankings on November 21, 2005 with rank 26. She celebrated her greatest individual success in 2009 at Wimbledon when she defeated Maria Sharapova there . In February 2011 she secured her first WTA title since 2008 at the clay court tournament in Acapulco . In the same year she then moved into the second round of the French Open for the second time . She had to cancel her start at Wimbledon due to an adductor injury.
In doubles, she won the WTA Tour Championships in Doha with her long-term partner Flavia Pennetta in 2010 and thus topped the doubles world rankings, which she led for a total of 24 weeks. In 2011 she won the title at the Australian Open alongside Pennetta, with whom she won a total of eleven WTA titles, the first Grand Slam success on the professional tour. In the final they defeated the pairing Wiktoryja Asaranka / Marija Kirilenko with 2: 6, 7: 5 and 6: 1.
On November 19, 2012 Gisela Dulko announced the end of her career.
Private
Gisela Dulko has been married to the Argentine soccer player Fernando Gago since July 2012 . Their son Mateo was born on June 9, 2013.
