Virginie Razzano (born May 12, 1983 in Dijon ) is a former French tennis player .

Career

Razzano started playing tennis at the age of seven. Your favorite surface is the hard court (green set). So far she has won two individual titles on the WTA Tour , both in 2007. She has been playing for the French Fed Cup team since 2001, and her Fed Cup record shows 16 wins out of nine losses (singles 10: 5).

On September 30, 2007, she secured her first individual title at the Guangzhou International Women's Open with a final victory over Tzipora Obziler . On October 6th she celebrated a final victory over Venus Williams at the Japan Open Tennis Championships . She won her only double title in February 2001 at the Open Gaz de France alongside Iva Majoli from Croatia against Kimberly Po and Nathalie Tauziat .

In 2008 she stood at Dominika Cibulková's side in the quarter-finals of the US Open - it was her best result in a Grand Slam tournament .

On May 29, 2012, Razzano defeated number 111 in the world rankings in round one of the French Open, Serena Williams , who was placed 5th , who had previously won the clay court tournaments in Charleston and Madrid and was unbeaten on clay for 17 matches. Razzano won the game with her eighth match point after Williams had already led 5: 1 in the tiebreak of the second set, i.e. only two points away from victory, after more than three hours of play with 4: 6, 7: 6 5 , 6 : 3. In the second round she was defeated by Arantxa Rus in two sets.

Since the French Open in 2014, she has suffered first-round defeats at major tournaments. In 2015 she failed in qualifying at the Australian Open and the US Open.

She ended her career at the end of the 2018 season.
