Marta Domachowska (born January 16, 1986 in Warsaw ) is a former Polish tennis player .
Career
Domachowska, who prefers hard courts, started playing tennis at the age of seven and became a professional player in 2001. In 2003 she reached the junior semi-finals at the Australian Open .
2002-2004
Equipped with a wildcard, she made her debut on the WTA Tour in Warsaw ; she lost her first round match in the main draw against Celine Beigbeder (WTA 87) 6: 7 2 , 6: 1, 3: 6. In Sopot , she and her compatriot Klaudia Jans reached the semi-finals in doubles with a wildcard . Eventually she won her first two singles and first doubles titles at ITF tournaments. On May 20, she was listed for the first time in the WTA world rankings , at 745th place. In 2002 she achieved a balance of 29:12 in singles and 9: 7 in doubles, and at the end of the season she was in position 356 in singles.
Also in 2003 she lost with a wildcard both in Warsaw (against Renata Voráčová , WTA 146) and in Sopot (against Silvija Talaja , WTA 78) in the first round. As a qualifier, she was defeated in Pattaya in round one Olena Tatarkowa (WTA 135) in three sets. At the ITF tournament in Toruń , Poland , she secured her third individual title as a qualifier. She finished the season in singles with a record of 29:12 (double 6:11) in 244th position.
In Seoul she was in the final of a WTA tournament for the first time in 2004 (1: 6, 1: 6 against Marija Sharapova ). She reached the semi-finals in Sopot, where she defeated Anna Smaschnowa (WTA 20) 7: 6, 4 and 6: 1; she then lost the final to Flavia Pennetta . With a victory over Cervanova, she qualified for the WTA tournament in Casablanca . On September 27, she reached the top 100. At the French Open , the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open , she missed the main draw. In contrast, she was able to win the ITF tournaments in Belfort and Warsaw. At the end of the season, after 42:20 wins in singles (12: 9 in doubles), she was in 74th place in the individual world rankings.
2005
Her highlight of the season was reaching the final of the Tier III tournament in Strasbourg , after which she was already ranked 63rd. She defeated Ai Sugiyama (WTA 26), who was seeded at 5 , and then lost the second individual final of her career with 4: 6, 3: 6 against Anabel Medina Garrigues . She also reached her first Tier II semi-final in Beijing , in which she had advanced without a fight (injury to Venus Williams ); there she was defeated by Anna-Lena Grönefeld . In Hobart , she was eliminated in the quarterfinals in three sets against Li Na . At the Amelia Island tournament , she reached the third round as a qualifier, but then lost in three sets to Venus Williams. In 2005 she took part for the first time in all the main rounds of the four largest tennis tournaments. At the Australian Open and the French Open, she reached the second round, at Wimbledon and at the US Open, she failed in round one. On August 8, it was even listed at number 47 after making the second round in San Diego . She completed the WTA tournaments in Pattaya (with Talaja) and in Strasbourg (alongside Marlene Weingärtner ) as a finalist. She had to cancel the tournaments in Hyderabad and Memphis due to problems with her right shoulder. She finished the season (24:26 in singles and 14:16 in doubles) in 60th place in singles.
2006
Domachowska opened the season alongside Roberta Vinci with her first WTA title, which moved her to 62nd place in the ranking. At the Tier III tournament in Memphis , she was in her third individual final on the tour. On the way there she defeated the 4th seeded Laura Granville and the 8th seeded Jill Craybas . In the final she had to admit defeat to number 3 of the tournament, Sofia Arvidsson , in three sets. In Indian Wells she reached the third round and in Miami she lost in round two to the "lucky loser" Kutuzova. On April 3, she reached her career high with 37th place in the world rankings. She ended the season by reaching the second round in Strasbourg, 's-Hertogenbosch, Montreal and Tokyo (Japan Open). In addition, she was in Cincinnati together with Sania Mirza in her fourth double final, which she lost 4: 6, 6: 3, 2: 6 against the top seeded Maria Elena Camerin and Gisela Dulko . In Stanford she reached the semifinals with Bartoli; with Alicja Rosolska in Strasbourg, with Jidkova in Tokyo and with Castano in Bangkok each the quarterfinals. At the US Open, she retired with Kostanic in round two. In the other Grand Slam tournaments , she failed in the individual round one. Due to an injury, she had to cancel the tournaments in Charleston and Bali . She finished the season with a record of 20:26 in singles (14:18 in doubles) in 90th place in the world rankings.
2007
This time she did not appear in Memphis and could not defend her points (2006 final). She reached the semifinals of the $ 75,000 tournament in Dinan, which she lost to Karin Knapp . In the quarterfinals of the $ 50,000 tournament in Torrent she lost to Perebiynis and as a qualifier in the Tier IV tournament in Seoul Venus Williams. In the second round of Stockholm , where she also had to qualify, she lost to Agnieszka Radwańska . Nine times in 2007 she could not qualify for the main round, not even at the French Open and the US Open. She did not appear in Wimbledon and only in doubles at the Australian Open. She ended the season with her first individual title since 2003; she won the $ 100,000 tournament in Poitiers as a qualifier (WTA 179). After her first seeded opponent Julija Wakulenko had withdrawn, she defeated the sixth seeded Alla Kudrjawzewa and in the final with Anna Lapuschtschenkowa another qualifier. In doubles, she lost the first four matches of the season before winning a $ 100,000 tournament in Rome with Emma Laine . She also reached the semi-finals of the Tier IV tournament in Tashkent and the quarter-finals of the $ 50,000 tournament in the Bronx. She finished the season in singles (37:20) in 145th place and in doubles (7:11) in 240th place.
2008-2010
She couldn't qualify for the preparatory tournaments; so her season began with the Australian Open, where she only competed individually. There she achieved the best result in a Grand Slam tournament by winning four games in a row in two sets (with qualification). She reached the round of 16 with victories over Mathilde Johansson , Sofia Arvidsson and the 24 seeded Li Na , in which she lost to Venus Williams 4: 6, 4: 6. She made up 64 places and was back in the top 100 (82nd place). With herself and Agnieszka Radwańska, two players from Poland were there for the first time in the round of 16 of a Grand Slam tournament. At the Rogers Masters , the Tier I tournament in Montreal, she defeated Bethanie Mattek 7: 5, 6: 2 in the first round . Then she lost to a battered Sharapova 5: 7, 7: 5 and 2: 6.
Her best result of the season in 2009 was the semi-finals at the clay court tournament in Båstad ; at the side of the South African Natalie Grandin she was defeated there by the pairing Dulko / Pennetta in two straight sets. In singles, she reached the quarter-finals at the WTA tournaments in Fès and Istanbul. At the end of the season she was in 140th and 155th respectively.
The best result in 2010 was a double semi-final at the clay court tournament in Marbella at the side of her compatriot Alicja Rosolska . After the US Open, where, like in Melbourne and Paris, she did not get beyond qualification, she played a few ITF tournaments. By the end of the year, she slipped to positions 299 (individual) and 304 in the ranking.
2014 – end of career
In the first quarter of 2014 she did not get past the qualifying round at three WTA tournaments (Doha, Dubai, Monterrey). From the end of March she did not run for the rest of the year. In January and February 2015, she failed in two smaller ITF tournaments in the first round of qualification.
On February 2, 2015, Domachowska played her last match on the professional tour in Grenoble. At the end of 2015, she announced her resignation.
