Sofia Arvidsson (born February 16, 1984 in Halmstad ) is a former Swedish tennis player .
Career
Arvidsson, who preferred indoor courts, began playing tennis at the age of eight.
From 2010 she was part of the Swedish Fed Cup team , for which she contributed 50 wins in 38 defeats. In 2008 she also took part in the Beijing Olympics for her country .
From 1999 she played at ITF tournaments, in the same year she played her first qualifying round on the WTA Tour . In 2006 she reached the third round of the Australian Open , it was her best result in a Grand Slam tournament . In the same year she also won her first WTA tournament. In the final in Memphis she defeated Marta Domachowska 6: 2, 2: 6, 6: 3, after she had previously beaten Lisa Raymond 6: 4, 6: 4 in the round of 16 and Caroline Wozniacki 7: 5, 6: 4 and in the quarterfinals had defeated Amy Frazier 6-2 and 6-2 in the semifinals . In May 2006 she achieved her best position in the WTA world rankings with position 29 .
She won her only WTA title in doubles in September 2010 in Québec when she and her compatriot Johanna Larsson defeated the pairing Bethanie Mattek-Sands / Barbora Záhlavová-Strýcová in the decisive set.
In February 2012, Arvidsson was able to win the Memphis tournament again six years after her first tournament victory and thus celebrate her second individual title on the WTA Tour.
In 2006 , 2007 and 2009 she became German team champion with the TC Rüppurr Karlsruhe . In 2011 she played for TEC Waldau Stuttgart , 2012 for TC Moers 08 and from 2013 for TC Blau-Weiss Berlin in the tennis Bundesliga .
On January 4, 2016, Sofia Arvidsson announced her retirement from professional tennis.
