Joue-les-Tours is a town with 37,893 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Indre-et-Loire in the region of Center-Val de Loire south of Tours , often presented as the suburb.

history

In the 6th century a small settlement with the name Jocondiacum is mentioned for the first time at this point , the people probably lived from their own agriculture and grew wine early on. After Emperor Napoléon ordered the establishment of cadastral offices for all French municipalities in 1807 , mainly to calculate the property taxes levied since 1790, the first cadastral office was also in Joué from 1826, which was divided into 17 sections. In one section, 2000 parcels of winegrowers were recorded who produced an excellent wine called Noble Joué , which was made up of three grape varieties: the cloudy Pinot meunier , the black Pinot noir and the Malvoisie . In a publication from 1832 (Topographie de tous les vignobles connus) this wine is described as follows: “a beautiful color, a full body, pleasant alcohol, wonderful taste - and all for 3 francs, it can be compared with the best known wines of the Auxerre locations in the Département de l'Yonne ”. This wine is now produced as Touraine-noble-joué AOC .

Section B of the cadastre contained a market town, which was described here for the first time precisely with "a few houses around a church" (in 1846 this market town had only 96 inhabitants, probably because of its location away from all traffic routes). In the second half of the 19th century there was a first expansion through the construction of several public buildings (train station, post office) in the course of the beginning industrialization (a briquette factory was built) and the associated population growth. Due to the better traffic connection to the trunk road and the railway network, an industrial place soon grew up.

In 1964, some parts of the city were ceded to Tours.
