Chatigny Castle

Fondettes is a French town with 10,307 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Indre-et-Loire in the region of Center-Val de Loire .

geography

Fondettes is seven kilometers northwest of Tours . The municipal area covers 3183 hectares, the mean height is 71 meters above sea ​​level , the Mairie stands at 91 meters. The Loire and the Choisille , a tributary of the Loire, flow through the municipality.

Culture and sights

Fondettes is represented with a flower in the Conseil national des villes et villages fleuris (National Council of Flowered Cities and Villages). The "flowers" are awarded in the course of a regional competition, whereby a maximum of three flowers can be achieved.

Buildings

Châtigny Castle was built in 1487. In the west of the castle courtyard, however, there are remains of a Gallo-Roman villa from the 3rd century, which were discovered during excavations in 1890. The castle was entered in the supplementary directory of the Monuments historiques in 2006 .

Saint-Symphorien Church

The Saint-Symphorien church was built on the foundations of an older church from the 12th century. The side aisles were built in the 13th century. The nave was completed around 1500. The sacristy dates from the 18th century. The church was restored around 1863. In 1995 it was entered in the supplementary directory of the Monuments historiques.
