Luynes is a French municipality with 5097 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Indre-et-Loire in the region of Center-Val de Loire ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Tours and the canton of Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire .

history

In the Middle Ages, Luynes was called "Maillé" and was the center of the county of the same name . In August 1619 Charles d'Albert , Comte de Maillé, was by King Louis XIII. appointed Duke of Luynes , with reference to the southern French family estate Luynes, which is now a district of Aix-en-Provence . The Count's Castle became Luynes Castle , and the place eventually took the name.
