Saint-Pierre-des-Corps is a French city on the Loire with 15,838 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). It is located in central France in the Indre-et-Loire department of the Center-Val de Loire region , about three kilometers east of the city center of Tours , between Loire and Cher . It is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of the same name . The inhabitants call themselves Corpopétrussiens . The city's name is derived from the Latin word corbus , which means raven .

The municipality is located on the left bank of the Loire , the municipality is also crossed by the river Filet . It borders on Rochecorbon to the north, La Ville-aux-Dames to the east, Larçay to the southeast, Saint-Avertin to the south and Tours to the west.

history

A Bronze Age settlement can be proven archaeologically for the municipality.

During the French Revolution , the place was given the name La Clarté-Républicaine . With the industrialization of the 19th century, the place also experienced an economic boom. After the Second World War, which left considerable damage in the place, the population increased to over 10,000 inhabitants and reached a high of over 18,000 in the early 1980s.

traffic

In order to change direction in the terminal station to avoid Tours, hold many TGV between Paris and Bordeaux in Saint-Pierre-des-Corps. Therefore, the place is an important junction in the railway network ( LGV Atlantique and the Paris – Bordeaux line ).
