The Kirchhoff Group is an international company that operates in the four business areas of Kirchhoff Automotive , Kirchhoff Mobility, Witte Tools and Kirchhoff Ecotec. It has been in the Kirchhoff family for four generations and achieved sales of around EUR 2.4 billion in 2019 with over 13,000 employees worldwide.

Main business areas

The Kirchhoff Group is divided into four business areas:

  • Kirchhoff Automotive develops and manufactures complex metal and hybrid structures for body-in-white and chassis and supplies all vehicle manufacturers worldwide with them
  • Kirchhoff Mobility manufactures individual vehicle conversions for people with reduced mobility.
  • Kirchhoff Ecotec comprises the environmental and disposal logistics division of the Kirchhoff Group. The three brands Faun, Zoeller and Hidromak belong to this area. The companies are manufacturers of garbage trucks, sweepers and lifter systems.
  • Witte -Werkzeuge is a manufacturer of screwdriving tools in Europe.

history

In 1785, the medium-sized company based in South Westphalia initially produced sewing needles, which it sold worldwide. In addition to the needle production, Friedrich Kirchhoff built the first press shop for the vehicle industry in 1894. In the beginning wagon parts for the railroad were produced here, later vehicle parts for trucks. Needle production was gradually discontinued from 1950 and screwing tools, primarily screwdrivers initially under the name Witte Werkzeuge, were manufactured today. The Hagen-based company specializes in the development and production of screwdriver series, bits and bit boxes. On the one hand, the company manufactures products for its own brand WITTE. On the other hand, brand manufacturers in the international tool market are among the customers. From 1955 to 1982 the company also produced electrical appliances, storage heaters and the first microwave ovens. This division was sold in 1980.

With the takeover of the Attendorn automotive supplier M. Kutsch in 1984, the company also entered the production of structural and chassis parts for passenger cars, which is today the largest division of Kirchhoff Automotive. With an initial location in Portugal, the internationalization of production started in the 1990s, first in Europe, then in Asia and North America. In 2016 the takeover of the North American company Van Rob Inc. with 11 plants in Canada, USA and Mexico was completed. Kirchhoff Automotive is today a development partner to the automotive industry and a full-range supplier for complex metal and hybrid structures for body shells and chassis as well as crash management systems and dashboard supports. The company operates 30 plants with around 9,000 employees on three continents.

In 1994 the Kirchhoff Group invested in the environmental and waste disposal logistics division and took over Faun GmbH (vehicle factories Ansbach and Nuremberg), a manufacturer of refuse collection vehicles and road sweepers, which was founded in 1845. The Faun Group employs 1,400 people worldwide, has five plants and, according to its own information, is one of the leading providers of vehicle logistics and IoT concepts for the waste disposal industry. Trend-setting developments were the world's first refuse collection vehicle with hybrid technology or fuel cell drive. In 2005 the Zoeller Group was integrated into the corporate group. When it was founded in 1938, the Mainz-based company was a pioneer in the development of tipping devices, so-called lifter systems. Today, Zöller-Kipper GmbH is one of the full-range providers of lift systems and disposal vehicles. The group has five production plants and 1,300 employees. Kirchhoff Ecotec has been cooperating with the Turkish provider Hidro-mak since 2015 to open up new markets in the Asian and Arabian regions. The family business has been manufacturing and selling garbage trucks, sweepers and lifter systems since 1961.

The fourth division of the Kirchhoff Group was added in 2006 with the takeover of the Reha Group Automotive, which had been doing pioneering work in Germany as an independent vehicle conversion company for people with reduced mobility since the beginning of the 1980s. Today Kirchhoff Mobility has a service and workshop network of 11 branches in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Every year more than 3000 individually converted vehicles leave the factories.
