Gun drill

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The weapon drill is an exercise in handling weapons . Above all, it is used for safe, quick and skillful handling of handguns such as rifles (some with bayonets ), machine guns , machine guns and pistols . Weapon drill is carried out at all armed organizations. In conscription armies it forms an important part of the training of recruits .

Contents include the way of carrying, the loading and unloading activities, the types of attachment , the dismantling and reassembly of the weapons and the detection and elimination of faults. The aim of the weapon drill is to master the weapon safely under all circumstances. That is why soldiers must be able to perform all activities quickly and safely even with covered eyes (simulation of darkness) or after physical exertion (races, obstacle course). Often, as part of the weapon drill, the soldiers are presented with several different weapons (machine gun, rifle, MP and pistol) at the same time in a disassembled state and then have to put them together in a functional manner while blindfolded. The background to this is the idea that someone who can assign even the smallest parts to the correct weapon and use them simply by feeling is in control of his weapon.

The purpose of the military drill is to internalize various standard processes as listed above as an automatism, so that the soldier can concentrate on the non-practicable (the concrete combat situation) without consciously thinking about e.g. B. to have to make the movements and weapon manipulations.

The formal training in the drill service with weapons, in order to shoulder or present them according to a prescribed pattern of movement, is not a weapon drill, since mastery of the weapon is not sought here. When drill with weapons it comes to the physical control of the soldiers involved. In this respect, drill teams do not practice weapons drill to practice their demonstrations, but drill.
