recruit
In the military, recruit refers to the position and, if applicable, the rank of a newly recruited soldier - usually for the duration of his basic training . The word is a borrowing from the French recrue ("youngster"), in turn derived from the Latin recrescere ("regrow") and has been in use in Germany since the 17th century .
Germany
In the Bundeswehr , soldiers are often referred to as recruits in basic training . Most of the soldiers in the lowest rank complete the basic training.

In the army 's recruits (previously "Wehrmann") is the lowest enlisted rank.
Soldiers who are training to be NCOs (HUAK) or officers (EF) wear their own version of the rank with a silver-colored crossbar on the upper edge. This is only available for the 75/03 service suit.

Rank badge
In most armies of the world, recruits wear no or empty rank badges (possibly only with general use, armed forces or military type identification, e.g. an anchor for the navy ) and receive their first rank badges through their first promotion after basic training.
