Ranks of the Austrian Armed Forces
The Austrian Armed Forces of the Second Republic have 21 ranks (the number of troop units on the skirt collar refers to the color of the weapon ).
General
The official title of “military person” is provided for civil servants in the military service . In addition, fixed military ranks are to be used as a description of use. Civil servants use the official title and the designation of use, as far as this is linguistically possible, in the female form. Soldiers of the same rank who are in a command relationship with one another, as well as soldiers of different ranks, have to address one another with the official salutation as "Mr." or "Ms." and their rank; the addition of the family name is permitted.
Ranks
The six-pointed stars on the ranks of the Austrian Armed Forces traditionally symbolize the native alpine edelweiss in terms of shape and design , in contrast to the usual stars of other armed forces.

Additions to the rank insignia
There are supplements to the rank badges for candidates for a militia function and specialist staff.
Accepted volunteers for a team function in the militia (recruits and batches) wear a horizontal green stripe above the rank badge, participants in the militia non-commissioned officer training (batches) and one-year volunteers (recruits and batches) wear a silver stripe and militia officer candidates a gold stripe ( constables only).
Specialized personnel (doctors, veterinarians, pharmacists, psychologists, pastors, musicians, experts) wear their own loop with the appropriate badge above their rank.
Military academics (rank ensign) wear golden horizontal stripes above their rank according to their training progress (e.g. 3 stripes for a military academic in the 3rd year).
Special case military secondary school
The pupils of the military high school also wore badges of rank, which show the respective status of the school level. Black distinctions were attached to the shoulders of the starting suit, black distinction loops were attached to the service suit. A narrow golden stripe was affixed to it for each grade.
