Staff sergeant (StWm) is a non-commissioned officer in the Austrian Armed Forces . As the entry level of the staff sergeants , he is usually the commander of a platoon or in the staff service (employment group M BUO 1 / professional sergeant or M ZUO 1 / temporary sergeant ). But he can also be used as a leader of a group (then often in the task group ZUO 2 / temporary sergeant ).
The staff sergeant was introduced to the mounted troops of the Austro-Hungarian Army in 1913 . Since 1915 he was one of the higher non-commissioned officers, together with the officer’s deputy , and was classified with this in rank class XII (before the "gagist without rank class"). In the case of the hunter troops, the corresponding designation was staff chief hunter , in the artillery staff fireworker . With the establishment of the Federal Army in March 1920 , the staff sergeant came into use in all branches of service; the rank of staff sergeant in the foot troops was dropped.
