Amy Frazier started playing tennis at the age of seven. Her great role model was Chris Evert , whose playing style resembled her later. In 1986 she started touring as an amateur. She had her first success two years later when she defeated the top 10 player Pam Shriver in Los Angeles . In 1989 she won in Kansas and won her first WTA title. In Tokyo (Dentsu) she defeated the French Open winner Monica Seles in 1990 and was among the 15 best in the world for the first time.
Two years later Frazier reached the first quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament ( Australian Open ). At the end of the season she qualified for the Ladies Masters in New York. After a six-month injury break and a related drop in the world rankings, she won the biggest tournament of her career in Los Angeles in 1994 . In the quarterfinals she defeated the then current Wimbledon winner Conchita Martínez 6: 4, 7: 6. In February 1995 she achieved the best ranking of her career with 13th place. In August, she beat Mary Pierce at the US Open and reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the second time.
Only four years later did she win another tournament in 1999 (Tokyo). In the same year Steffi Graf ended her career after losing a match against Frazier (4: 6, 7: 5, 2: 1 Graf). In 2000 Frazier defeated a current number one for the first time when they defeated Martina Hingis 6: 3, 6: 3 in San Diego and qualified for the Masters. In 2002 she succeeded in Stanford against Jelena Dokic, the 25th victory over a top 10 player. In 2005 Frazier won her last title in Québec . In 2006 she ended her career at the US Open.
