The 1989 WTA Tour (officially: Virginia Slims World Championships Series 1989 ) was the 19th year of the women 's tennis tournament series hosted by the Women's Tennis Association .

Like the Grand Slam tournaments, the Hopman Cup and Federation Cup team competitions are not organized by the WTA but by the ITF . They are still listed because the top players usually play there too.
