Betsy Nagelsen McCormack (born October 23, 1956 in Saint Petersburg , Florida ) is a former American tennis player .

Career

Nagelsen won the competition in women's doubles at the Australian Open in 1978 and 1980 , back then in Kooyong on grass. She celebrated the first title with Renáta Tomanová against Naoko Satō and Pam Whytcross , the second on the side of Martina Navrátilová against Ann Kiyomura and Candy Reynolds . In 1978 she was also in the individual finals in Melbourne , but lost there to Chris O'Neil in two sets. In her 21-year career, Nagelsen won a single and 21 double titles on the WTA Tour . She secured the individual title in 1978 in Surbiton .

After retiring from professional tennis after the Wimbledon tournament in 1996, she worked as a commentator for the US television stations ABC and ESPN and for Nine Network in Australia.

Betsy Nagelsen married Mark McCormack , the sports manager and founder of the International Management Group (IMG) and a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame , in 1986 . With the help of donations from the couple, the McCormack – Nagelsen Tennis Center was built at the College of William & Mary .
