Akiko Kijimuta ( Japanese 雉 子 牟 田 明子 , Kijimuta Akiko ; born May 1, 1968 in Ebina , Kanagawa Prefecture ) is a former Japanese tennis player . Her younger sister Naoko was also a professional tennis player.
Career
Kijimuta's professional career lasted from 1983 to 1994. During this period, she won a single and two double titles at the ITF level. She was denied a title win on the WTA Tour .
In 1992 she was in the second round of the individual competition at the French Open . It was her greatest success in a Grand Slam tournament .
From 1984 to 1991 she played 13 games for the Japanese Fed Cup team , of which she was able to win three.
Kijimuta achieved her best placements in the WTA world rankings with 49th place in singles (1990) and 93rd place in doubles (1991).
