Katerina Maleewa ( Bulgarian Катерина Малеева ; born  May 7, 1969 in Sofia ) is a former Bulgarian tennis player . She celebrated eleven tournament wins in singles and two in doubles on the WTA Tour .

Career

Together with her two sisters, the older Manuela and the younger Magdalena , Katerina entered the history books in women's tennis. So they made sure that three sisters appeared on the seeding list of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time, all of whom also reached the last sixteen at the 1993 French Open.

Katerina herself made it to the quarter-finals at least once in all Grand Slam tournaments. In 1990 she reached the round of the last eight in three of these four major tournaments.

In 1988 and 1992 she took part in the Olympic Games for her country . To date, she has the most individual victories (20) for the Bulgarian Fed Cup team ; Overall, their record shows 29 wins out of 22 defeats.
