Julie Halard-Decugis (born September 10, 1970 in Versailles ) is a former French tennis player .

Career

She began her professional career in 1986 and won her first ITF title in 1987 in Haddonfield (USA), Neumünster and Erlangen . She celebrated her first title on the WTA Tour in 1991 at the Puerto Rico Open . Between 1990 and 2000 she played 35 games for the French Fed Cup team , of which she won 22 (doubles: 9: 3).

At the end of 1995, Julie Halard was number 1 in France for the first time when she reached number 15 in the world rankings . In the same year, she injured her wrist and knee several times and was out for almost two years. In 1998 she came back to the tour and won the WTA tournaments in Rosmalen and Pattaya . In 1999 she reached the top ten of the WTA world rankings. At the German Open in Berlin, she defeated Steffi Graf in the quarter-finals , which only five other players achieved at a tournament in Germany.

She achieved her best marks in the world rankings in her last professional year with place 7 in singles and number 1 in doubles. In the same year she managed the only title win in a Grand Slam tournament , when she won the competition in women's doubles at the US Open alongside Ai Sugiyama (with her she won a total of six double titles). After the WTA Tour Championships in November 2000, she ended her professional career.
