Els Callens (born August 20, 1970 in Antwerp ) is a former Belgian tennis player .

Career

Els Callens was above all a successful doubles player. In her professional career she won ten WTA tournaments in doubles, but not a single one in singles; after all, she came up with four ITF singles titles.

At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, she won the bronze medal in women's doubles for Belgium together with Dominique Van Roost . In the semifinals they lost to Serena and Venus Williams .

Callens played for the Belgian Fed Cup team from 1994 to 2005 . Your personal Fed Cup record shows 9: 7 wins in singles and 17: 6 in doubles. In 2001 she was part of the Belgian team led by Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters , which won the Fed Cup with a 2-1 win over Russia . In the same year, the Fed Cup team was voted Belgium's Team of the Year .

Els Callens ended her professional career in 2005. In 2011 she returned to the courts in doubles for five ITF tournaments in Germany and the Netherlands.
