Nathalie Dechy (born February 21, 1979 in Les Abymes , Guadeloupe ) is a former French tennis player .

Career

Her best performance in a Grand Slam tournament in singles was recorded in 2005 at the Australian Open , when she made it to the semifinals there and lost to Lindsay Davenport in three sets. Together with Vera Swonaryova , she won the doubles competition at the US Open in 2006 . In 2007 she was able to defend the title alongside Dinara Safina .

On May 20, 2007 Dechy made her third career title in doubles with Mara Santangelo at the clay court tournament in Rome . With this she achieved her personal best with rank 8 on the double world rankings. In 2009, her last official year on the WTA Tour , she was able to book three more double titles.

Dechy also won the mixed competition at the French Open in 2007 with her partner Andy Ram .

From 2000 until her retirement in 2009, she played 32 games for the French Fed Cup team , with 17 wins.

Natalie Dechy is married to Antoine Maître-Devallon.
