Latisha Chan , also Chan Yung-jan ( Chinese 詹 詠 然 / 詹 咏 然 , Pinyin Zhān Yǒngrán ; born August 17, 1989 in Taipei ) is a Taiwanese tennis player . She is the older sister of Chan Hao-ching , with whom she often competes in doubles and has won 18 of her 33 WTA doubles titles to date. Her biggest success so far is winning the doubles title at the 2017 US Open . In October 2017 she became the 36th player to take the lead in the doubles world rankings .
Career
Chan, who prefers hard courts, began tennis at the age of six under the guidance of her father. In August 2004 she became a professional player. She reached her highest ranking in the world ranking in singles in June 2007 with rank 50 and in doubles in October 2017 with rank 1.
With her former permanent doubles partner Chuang Chia-jung , she was in the final of the 2007 Australian Open and the US Open .
Chan has already won 16 ITF singles titles in her career , but not a single one on the WTA Tour . Her record looks much better in doubles: With her younger sister Chan Hao-ching , she won her tenth WTA title in January 2013 in Shenzhen (her first joint); the eleventh followed in September 2013 and the twelfth at the 2014 Eastbourne grass tournament . She celebrated her third joint WTA title with her sister in November 2014 at the WTA Challenger tournament in Taipei . There are also 16 double titles in ITF tournaments.
Since the US Open in September 2015, she has only played doubles. With her sister, with whom she played from 2013 to February 2017, she won three WTA titles in 2015 and two more in 2016. Due to these successes, the two sisters were in positions 5 and 6 in the double world rankings at the end of February 2016.
From March 2017, Chan formed a successful double pair with the former number one and multiple Grand Slam winner Martina Hingis . The two won eleven titles in 2017, including the US Open . After her success with Hingis, she was number 1 in the double world rankings from October 2017 to June 2018 .
In 2018 she won the silver medal in doubles at the Asian Games. At their sister's side, they lost the final against Xu Yifan / Yang Zhaoxuan 2: 6, 6: 1 and 9:11.
She has been competing for Taiwan in the Fed Cup since 2006 . After the 27 games that she has played so far, she has been the winner 15 times.
