The China Open 2017 was a women's tennis tournament as part of the WTA Tour 2017 in Beijing . The hard court tournament in the Premier Mandatory category took place from September 30th to October 8th, 2017. The three semi-finalists of the Premier 5 tournament in Wuhan , who were in the main draw due to their world rankings, were automatically qualified for the second round.

The defending champions were Agnieszka Radwańska in singles and Bethanie Mattek-Sands / Lucie Šafářová in doubles .

In the final, Caroline Garcia won against Simona Halep . By moving into the final, Halep made it to number 1 in the tennis world rankings .
