Jennifer Brady (born April 12, 1995 in Harrisburg ) is an American tennis player .

Career

Jennifer Brady, who began playing tennis at the age of seven, began her tennis career as a college player for the University of California, Los Angeles , with which she won the women's championship at the 2014 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships and reached the round of 16 in the individual competition.

In 2011 she gained her first experience on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour , where she won her first professional title in Redding in 2014 . In the following two years she only competed in tournaments in America . It was only after her biggest title triumph to date at a tournament in the $ 75,000 category in Indian Harbor that Brady traveled to Europe for the first time to qualify for the French Open 2016 , but was eliminated in the final round. She then made her debut on the WTA tour in Stanford , where she failed at the start to Alizé Cornet . Following another tournament victory at an ITF tournament in the $ 50,000 category in Granby , she was in Guangzhou for the first time in the quarterfinals of a WTA tournament.

At the beginning of the 2017 season, coming out of qualification at the Australian Open , reaching the round of 16, in which she was defeated by Mirjana Lučić-Baroni , her best career result to date and thus also the jump into the top 100 of the tennis world rankings . Also at the US Open in the same year she reached the fourth round after an opening win against Andrea Petković and had to give up Karolína Plíšková without a chance. At the end of the season in Hong Kong , she also achieved her first semi-final on the WTA tour.

The following year, Brady failed to repeat her strong results from 2017 and only reached three semifinals at ITF level. It went better in the doubles, where she was able to advance to the quarter-finals for the first time at the Australian Open alongside her compatriot Vania King . In 2019, she and Alison Riske even made it to the semi-finals in Melbourne ; there both Tímea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic lost . But she also showed herself to be strengthened again at the beginning of the year and came into the third round as a qualifier in Dubai , in which she was only stopped by Petra Kvitová . At the WTA Challenger in Indian Wells, she then advanced to the final, in which, however, she lost in three sets against Viktorija Golubic . By reaching the semi-finals in Nottingham as well as major round successes as a qualifier in Toronto , Cincinnati and Beijing , where she even made it into the third round, she finished the year confidently in the top 100 in the world.

At the start of the 2020 season, Brady achieved the quarter-finals in Brisbane after qualifying and defeated a top 10 player for the first time in the second round with world number one Ashleigh Barty . During her march through from the qualification to the semi-finals in Dubai, she immediately followed her second top 10 success in the first round against Elina Switolina . In the round of the last four she was then defeated by the eventual tournament winner Simona Halep . Nevertheless, she subsequently achieved her best career ranking to date with rank 45. In Melbourne she was, this time together with Caroline Dolehide , for the third time in a row in the quarter-finals, in which they were defeated by the top seeded Hsieh Su-wei and Barbora Strýcová .

In 2019 Brady made his debut in a 3-2 playoff win over Switzerland for the United States ' Fed Cup team , but lost their doubles game.
