Jil Belen Teichmann (born July 15, 1997 in Barcelona ) is a Swiss tennis player .

Career

Teichmann already attracted attention as a junior when she won the prestigious Porto Alegre Junior Championships in 2014 and then triumphed at the US Open alongside İpek Soylu in the junior doubles competition. In the junior tennis world ranking, she climbed to third place. In 2008 she gained her first experience on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour , and in 2015 she won her first professional title.

In 2016 Teichmann made her debut on the WTA tour in the qualification of Bogotá and was eliminated in the first round. In the same year she won two ITF titles in succession in the $ 25,000 category in Montpellier and Périgueux , where she gave only one set in a total of ten games. With the improved ranking she was able to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament in New York for the first time, but lost there at the start. In 2017 she was in the main draw of a WTA tournament in Bogotá for the first time, but had to admit defeat to Kateřina Siniaková without a chance in the first round . At the ITF tournament in the $ 100,000 category in Cagnes-sur-Mer , she lost to Beatriz Haddad Maia .

Teichmann achieved her first win in the main draw of a WTA tournament in 2018 in Acapulco with a two-set win over Jana Fett . At the US Open , after six missed attempts, she survived the qualification for the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time and immediately landed her first win there against Dalila Jakupović before she had to admit defeat to Kaia Kanepi in the second round . In 2019 Teichmann finally made her international breakthrough at the tournament in Prague when she won her first WTA title after qualifying. After successes over Swetlana Kuznetsova and Barbora Strýcová , she prevailed in the final in three sets against Karolína Muchová . Due to the success, Teichmann moved into the top 100 of the world rankings for the first time. Only a few months later she won her second title in Palermo , where she beat a top 10 player in the final with Kiki Bertens for the first time. She then achieved her best world ranking so far with rank 54, but could not keep her good form on clay court during the final hard court season in North America and Asia.

In 2018, Teichmann was called up for the first time in the Swiss Fed Cup team for the duel against the Czech Republic . Since then, she has contested four matches in singles and doubles for her country, all of which she has won.
