Career

In 2003 she won the tournament again, like Martina Hingis eleven years earlier. One day after her 14th birthday, she played her first tournament on the WTA Tour , the Zurich Open , for which she had received a wildcard for qualification ; However, she had to cancel her second round game due to an adductor injury . She received an invitation from those responsible for the Swiss Fed Cup team , for which she has now played 43 games and celebrated 23 victories.

First successes on the professional tour

At the end of 2004 she was number 224 in the WTA world rankings . Because of problems with the Swiss Tennis Federation Swiss Tennis , however, and disputes with the Fed Cup team and a tournament break they fell back by the end of 2005. With the Fed Cup team, she lost to Japan, but defeated a top 100 player for the first time.

Two ITF tournament victories followed, and in May 2006 she appeared on the seed list of a WTA tournament in Strasbourg for the first time. At the Zurich Open she then defeated two top ten players and made it to the quarter-finals.

With a victory over Anda Perianu in the third qualifying round of the French Open , Bacsinszky was in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in 2007 ; with a victory in round one over Zheng Jie , she improved to 89th place in the world rankings. In February in Antwerp she defeated Wolha Hawarzowa 6: 3, 3: 6 and 7: 5 after surviving the qualification after she had fought off a match point in the third set when the score was 4-5. In the round of 16 she prevailed against Julie Ditty in two sets, then she benefited from her injury-related task in 6: 2, 4: 6 and 4: 1 against Daniela Hantuchová . She had to cancel the Australian Open in 2009 due to a knee injury. In February she lost 3-2 with the Swiss Fed Cup team to Germany . In March she reached the second round in Indian Wells, in which she was defeated by Caroline Wozniacki . Also at the French Open she was in the second round after her opening win over Émilie Loit , in which she failed due to Li Na . At Wimbledon, she was also defeated by Marion Bartoli in round two. In October she achieved her greatest success to date, when she defeated Sabine Lisicki 6: 2, 7: 5 in the final of the BGL Luxembourg Open and celebrated her first WTA title.

In 2010 she made it into the finals in Bad Gastein , where she lost to Julia Görges in two sets. Both players had already faced each other there in the final of the qualification, which had ended with the same result. In addition, she reached the round of 16 in Miami (category: Premier Mandatory) (outright defeat against Yanina Wickmayer ). At the French Open, she lost to Alexandra Dulgheru in the second round .

2012-2014

Bacsinszky won two ITF tournaments in 2012, in Brasília and in Mont-de-Marsan . 2013 followed a title win at the ITF tournament in Contrexéville ; the qualifications at the French Open and Wimbledon , however, were not successful.

In April 2013 she ended her career and started an internship in a hotel. A month later, she received a short term entry for qualifying for the French Open , whereupon she continued her career.

Bacsinszky reached the second round at the French Open , Wimbledon and the US Open in 2014 . With her victory over Maria Sharapova in the third round at the WTA tournament in Wuhan , she was again in the top 50 of the world rankings in September 2014 after four years.

Since 2015

In February 2015, she won her second WTA singles title at the Acapulco tournament with a final victory over Caroline Garcia . Just a week later, she secured her third individual title in Monterrey , again against Garcia. At the French Open , Bacsinszky reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time ; after a very good start she was defeated by the eventual tournament winner Serena Williams in three sets. Despite the defeat, she was then in the top 20 for the first time; after her quarter-finals at Wimbledon she improved to 14th place. With the entry into the finals at the Premier Mandatory tournament in Beijing , Bacsinszky secured for the first time the place in the top ten. After Manuela Maleeva , Martina Hingis and Patty Schnyder, she is the fourth Swiss woman to have succeeded.

In 2016, her most notable successes were winning the title in Rabat and reaching the quarter-finals at the French Open . At the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro she won silver together with Martina Hingis in the doubles competition .
