This article describes the women's singles for the 2009 US Open , which started on August 31, 2009 and ended on September 13. The defending champion was Serena Williams .

In the final on September 13th, Kim Clijsters , who played with a wildcard, beat Caroline Wozniacki in 1:33 hours 7: 5, 6: 3. Clijsters was the first player to win one of the four major tournaments with a wildcard. She is also the first mother to win such a tournament since Evonne Goolagong Cawley (Australia), who won Wimbledon in 1980.

Clijsters, who prevailed against both Williams sisters in the course of the tournament, crowned her comeback on the WTA Tour with this success . In addition to the prize money of 1.6 million US $, she was also pleased about her return to the top 20 in the world rankings.
