Iveta Benešová started playing tennis at the age of seven. From 1998 she completed ITF tournaments, her first match as a professional player at the WTA tournament in Prague (qualification).
In 2004 and 2008 she competed for the Czech Republic at the Olympic Games. From 2002 she played for the Czech Fed Cup team . Your Fed Cup balance: 11 wins out of 12 losses.
Benešová started 2011 with a tournament victory in Sydney . Together with Barbora Záhlavová-Strýcová she defeated the pairing Květa Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik with 4: 6, 6: 4, [10: 7]. With this she achieved her best ranking in doubles with rank 17. This was followed by further victories in Monterrey, Barcelona and Luxembourg. In April 2012, Benešová and Záhlavová-Strýcová won their tenth joint double title by winning the tournament in Stuttgart .
Benešová took on the Austrian tennis player Jürgen Melzer's name on September 14, 2012 when he married. The wedding took place at Laxenburg Castle.
Then she took a longer tournament break. When she first appeared after her return in February 2014, she stood at the side of Petra Cetkovská at the WTA tournament in Acapulco in the final, which they lost in the shortened third set. In the world rankings she had fallen far behind after a break of more than 16 months. On August 15, 2014, she finally ended her professional career.
In March 2015, Jürgen Melzer divorced, again taking her maiden name Benešová.
