Katarina Srebotnik (born March 12, 1981 in Slovenj Gradec , Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian tennis player . Between July and September 2011, she and Květa Peschke , who was her permanent doubles partner from February 2010 to June 2012, were number 1 in the doubles world rankings.
Career
Srebotnik, who also has an older sister (Urška), played in ITF tournaments from 1995 . In 1996 she won her first titles there (singles and doubles).
In singles, the right-hander reached her highest position in the WTA ranking on August 7th, 2006 with 20th place . Srebotnik can boast far greater successes in doubles; she has already won 36 titles on the tour and was at the top of the world rankings for ten weeks in 2011. In three of the four Grand Slam tournaments she was at least once in the final, at the Australian Open she "only" made it to the semi-finals; in the individual, however, she never got beyond the last sixteen. Since August 2010, when she received a first round defeat at the tournament in Montréal , she has not competed in the individual.
Her mixed successes are also impressive . In 1999, 2006 and 2010 Srebotnik won the French Open . She had already won the US Open in mixed doubles in 2003 and her fifth Grand Slam title followed on January 30, 2011 at the Australian Open. This means that she is missing only one title for the "Career Grand Slam" in mixed at Wimbledon, where she won her only Grand Slam title in women's doubles in 2011.
In 2011 Srebotnik started with a win in Auckland , with Květa Peschke they defeated the pairing Sofia Arvidsson / Marina Eraković 6: 3, 6: 0. On February 28, the second double title of the year followed in Doha , with the same partner she beat Liezel Huber / Nadja Petrowa in three sets. Also in Wimbledon, the two made it into the final with a straight two-set win over the pairing Sania Mirza / Jelena Wesnina , in which they defeated Samantha Stosur and Sabine Lisicki just as clearly.
At the beginning of 2012 Srebotnik won the 30th double title of her career in Sydney . At Wimbledon, where they did not get past the second round, Srebotnik and Peschke then contested their last double tournament together for the time being. At the French Open they had previously reached the quarter-finals again.
At the beginning of 2014 they competed together again and at the clay court tournament in Rome they won another title with a demolition victory over Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani . Since the beginning of 2015 Srebotnik has been playing doubles with Caroline Garcia , with whom she won the title at the Eastbourne grass tournament .
Since 1997 she has also played 53 games for the Slovenian Fed Cup team ; their Fed Cup record shows 33 wins and 20 losses.
