Johanna Larsson (born August 17, 1988 in Boden ) is a former Swedish tennis player .

Career

Larsson started playing tennis at the age of five. Up until the summer of 2010, she was particularly noticeable at ITF tournaments, where she has now won 13 singles and 16 doubles. On the WTA Tour she caused a sensation for the first time when she reached the final without losing a set at the tournament in Portorož in July 2010 . She won her first WTA double title in 2010 at the tournament in Québec , followed by another in Copenhagen in 2011 .

In 2011 she also reached the semifinals at the WTA tournaments in Acapulco and Estoril . In July she was ranked 46th after her final participation in the clay court tournament in Båstad (loss to Polona Hercog ) and thus for the first time in the top 50 of the WTA world rankings .

In the 2014 season she achieved her best result in a Grand Slam tournament ; at both the French Open and the US Open , she was in the third round of singles. In 2016 she reached the third round at the US Open for a second time.

In January 2015, Larsson won her third WTA double title in Hobart ; in July she secured her first WTA title in singles and also her fourth in doubles at the tournament in Båstad . In 2016 she won her fifth double title at the WTA tournament in Nuremberg. She celebrated the last three double successes at the side of Kiki Bertens . At the WTA tournament in Seoul in September 2016, she won the sixth double title alongside Kirsten Flipkens . With Bertens she then secured further titles in Linz and Luxembourg as well as in Auckland in January 2017 . With the victory at the WTA tournament in Gstaad, she achieved her tenth tournament victory in women's doubles and with the tournament victories at the WTA tournaments in Seoul and Linz , the tournament victories increased to twelve. At the end of the year, Larsson and Bertens qualified for the WTA tournament in Singapore , the best eight women's doubles teams. Although they made the leap as the eighth and final team, they won both the quarter-finals and the semifinals as underdogs. Only in the final did they lose to the doubles Tímea Babos / Andrea Hlaváčková 6: 4, 4: 6 and [5:10]. She achieved her best position so far in the double world rankings in October 2017 with 20th place.

In doubles, she achieved her best results in Grand Slam tournaments at the Australian Open in 2015 and at the French Open in 2016 , each with a place in the quarter-finals alongside Kiki Bertens.

Since 2005, Larsson had played 85 games for the Swedish Fed Cup team , of which they had won 52.

In the German tennis Bundesliga , Larsson played in 2006 , 2010 , 2011 , 2012 and 2013 for TEC Waldau Stuttgart , in 2009 and 2015 for TC Rüppurr Karlsruhe . She won 33 of her 50 Bundesliga matches, 16 of them in singles. She was German team champion in 2014 with the TC Blau-Weiss Bocholt and in 2016 and 2017 with the TC Rot-Blau Regensburg .

On February 8, 2020, she announced her retirement.
