The 2007 WTA Championships (also known as the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championships ) was an indoor hard court tennis tournament for women in Madrid , Spain . The tournament took place from November 6th to 11th, 2007 and, after the four Grand Slam tournaments, was the WTA tournament with the highest endowment in terms of points and prize money in the women's tournament calendar. The tennis championships of the WTA Tour in women singles and doubles were held for the second time in Madrid.

The Belgian Justine Henin in singles and the duo Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur in doubles were the defending champions.

The individual winner was Justine Henin, who defeated Marija Sharapova 5: 7, 7: 5 and 6: 3. The pairing Cara Black and Liezel Huber secured the double title . She won the final against Katarina Srebotnik / Ai Sugiyama with 5: 7, 6: 3 and [10: 8].

Competition mode

In the round-robin phase (Engl. Round Robin ), played four players in two groups each against all. The top two in each group qualified for the semi-finals, which were played according to the knockout system . The winner of each group played against the second in the other group and the winners of those games played the final.
