The 2013 WTA Championships (also known as TEB-BNP Paribas WTA Championships - Istanbul 2013 ) took place from October 22nd to 27th, 2013 in the Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul . The hard court tournament was after the four Grand Slam tournaments, the on points and prize money with the highest prize tournament of the WTA in the tournament calendar of the ladies. The tennis championships of the WTA Tour in women singles and doubles were held for the third and, for the time being, last time in Istanbul.

Serena Williams defended her title and secured her fourth individual championship success. In addition, she won all of her games and thus secured the maximum number of 1,500 world ranking points as well as the record prize money of 2,145,000 US dollars. The winners in doubles were Peng Shuai and Hsieh Su-wei , who prevailed in the final against the Russian pairing Jelena Wesnina / Jekaterina Makarowa and were the first Asians to enter the tournament's list of winners.

Competition mode

In the round phase (English Round Robin ) four players played in two groups, each against each other. The top two in each group qualified for the semi-finals, which were played according to the knockout system . The winners each played against the second in the other group and the winners of these games played the final.
