The 2003 WTA Championships (also known as the Bank of America WTA Tour Championships presented by Porsche ) were an indoor hard court tennis tournament for women in Los Angeles , United States . The tournament took place from November 5th to 10th, 2003 at the Staples Center .

Kim Clijsters in singles and the duo Jelena Dementjewa and Janette Husárová in doubles were the defending champions.

The individual winner was Kim Clijsters, who defeated Amélie Mauresmo 6: 2 and 6: 0. Virginia Ruano Pascual / Paola Suárez secured the double title against Kim Clijsters / Ai Sugiyama 6: 4, 3: 6 and 6: 3.

Competition mode

In the round-robin phase (Engl. Round Robin ), played four players in two groups each against all. The top two in each group qualified for the semi-finals, which were played according to the knockout system . The winner of each group played against the second in the other group and the winners of those games played the final.
