Chanda Rubin (born February 18, 1976 in Lafayette , Louisiana ) is a former American tennis player .

Career

Rubin went on the professional tour in 1991 and quickly established himself among the top 50 in the world. In 1995 she sensationally reached the quarter-finals of the French Open when she defeated Jana Novotná 7: 6, 4: 6 and 8: 6 after she was already 0: 5, 0:40 behind in the third set. She was able to fend off nine match points and then turn the game around. At Wimbledon she played the longest match in tournament history against Patricia Hy-Boulais , which she won after 3 hours and 45 minutes with 7: 6, 6: 7, 17:15. The following year, she achieved something similar at the Australian Open , when she beat Arantxa Sánchez Vicario 6: 4, 2: 6, 16:14 and made it to the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. There she led 5: 2 in the decisive set against Monica Seles before she had to give up the game 7: 6, 1: 6, 5: 7. After all, she was able to win the double title at the side of Sánchez Vicario. In April 1996 she achieved her highest single placement with rank 6.

In 1997 Rubin won her first WTA title in Linz and the Hopman Cup together with Justin Gimelstob . 1999 followed the second tournament victory in Hobart and she was part of the US team that won the Fed Cup . In addition, she managed her first win against a current number one ( Martina Hingis ) in Indian Wells . In 2000 Rubin took part in the Masters for the second time in her career . In 2003 she made it into the top 10 with titles in Madrid and Eastbourne .

For the US Fed Cup team , she completed a total of eleven games between 1995 and 2004, in which she was successful eight times.

After frequent injuries, she has been on a break - apart from brief comeback attempts - since 2005.
