She reached the top 100 in 1991 and was in the top 50 four years later when she was semi-finalists in Strasbourg and San Diego . 1997 was an extraordinary year for her; she reached the top 20 and won the Fed Cup with the French team in the final against the Netherlands (including Brenda Schultz-McCarthy ). Between 1997 and 2002 she played a total of 14 Fed Cup games, of which she won nine. She also had her first WTA tournament success in 1997 in Palermo.
In 2001 she was in the semifinals of the WTA Tour Championships , where she lost to Serena Williams 3: 6 and 0: 6. 1997 to 1999 and in 2000 she was eliminated there in round one.
After losing to her compatriot Mary Pierce , Sandrine Testud announced in 2002 that she wanted to take a break with regard to her pregnancy. In 2003 she gave birth to a daughter (Isabella). When she returned to the WTA Tour in 2004 , she didn't have any major victories over Magui Serna and Nathalie Dechy in Doha . In doubles, she reached the semi-finals of the French Open again with Roberta Vinci . She still played doubles sporadically in 2005, for example at the French Open or in Palermo, but then retired from professional sport that same year.
