The 1989 WTA Championships (also known as the Virginia Slims Championships ) was a WTA indoor carpet court tennis tournament for women held in Madison Square Garden in New York City . It was part of the WTA Tour 1989 and took place from November 13-19, 1989.

In the singles Steffi Graf won against Martina Navrátilová 6: 4, 7: 5, 2: 6 and 6: 2. In doubles, the pairing Martina Navrátilová / Pam Shriver won 6: 3 and 6: 2 against Larisa Savchenko / Natallja Swerawa .
